The dig, the cut, the fill and the grade. Foundation excavation, pool excavation and full site prep on the tight, steep, awkward lots the Okanagan is full of.
Excavation and site preparation in Vernon is where a project is won or lost. Get the grade, the compaction or the drainage wrong at the start, and every wall, slab and paver built on top of it pays for it later. We treat the dirt work as the foundation of the job, because it is.
We run our own machines, all of them new, with five or six attachments each, so the right tool is on site instead of the closest one. That matters on Okanagan lots, where access is tight, the ground changes every few metres and the slope rarely does what the survey suggested.
Most of our excavation is part of a larger build we also finish, which means the crew digging the hole already knows what is going in it.
Site work on its own for a builder or owner, or the first stage of a full landscape construction build.
Digs for new homes, additions and pools, cut to grade and elevation, with the spoil managed on site or hauled out.
Cut and fill to create usable levels on a slope, compacted in lifts so the ground does not settle under what goes on top.
Rock broken out and removed where the plan needs it gone, or kept and reused in walls and landscape where it suits the property.
Construction access, driveway subgrade and gravel base, plus the culverts and ditching that keep water off them.
Tell us what needs to be dug and why. Plans, a survey or a site plan help if you have them.
Utility locates are booked through BC 1 Call before any digging. We walk the site for access, slope, soil and where the spoil can go.
A clear scope for the dig: elevations, what stays, what goes, where material comes from and in what order it happens.
Our own operators and machines. Graded to the plan, compacted in lifts and left ready for the next stage, whether that is our crew or yours.
Excavated material is loaded and trucked off site, and clean fill or gravel comes in as needed.
Cut from one part of the property becomes fill on another, so less material leaves or arrives.
The dig happens in sections, with walls built as it goes, instead of opening the whole site at once.
We do not publish prices, because no two properties are the same. These are the things that decide the scope, and we walk you through each one on the site visit.
How the machines get in, and how far material has to travel once they are there.
Sand digs fast. Clay, glacial till and rock do not, and rock can mean breaking.
How much comes out, whether it can stay on the property, and how far the trucks have to go.
Steep cuts may need benching, staging or temporary support to stay safe.
Groundwater or seasonal runoff in the dig has to be managed before anything can be built.
Most of our excavation is in and around Vernon, and the typical dig here is a hillside lot. Benches above the lake in areas like Okanagan Landing and the Foothills mean cutting into slopes with limited access, working around existing homes and moving material on narrow residential streets. Planning where the spoil goes matters as much as the dig itself.
In Kelowna our excavation work is usually tied to a larger build: pool digs, walls and site preparation for new homes and major renovations on sloped lots in areas like the Upper Mission. Steep grades, tight setbacks and neighbours on every side mean the dig is sequenced carefully.
In Armstrong the ground is flatter but the scale is bigger. Site preparation here is more often driveways, building pads, ditching and drainage across larger properties, where moving water off the land matters as much as moving the dirt.
We also build across the wider North Okanagan. If your property is outside these three, call and ask.
Yes. Locates are requested through BC 1 Call before any excavation starts, every time.
Yes. Most of the pools we dig are on sloped lots. It usually means cutting in on the high side, building up the low side and adding retaining walls so the pool sits level and stays there.
It depends on the site. Where the material is suitable and there is room, we reuse it as fill elsewhere on the property. Where it is not, we haul it away. You will know which before we start.
Yes. We do excavation and site preparation on their own for builders and owners, and we can carry on and build the walls, drainage and hardscape that go on top.
Some work does, depending on the depth, what is being built and the municipality. We confirm what is required for your address before the dig starts.
Call and tell us what is being built. We will tell you what the ground needs first.
